WHAT SMALL CHANGES CAN WE MAKE IN OUR LIVES TO BE MORE ECO-FRIENDLY AND ORGANIZED IN OUR HOMES?
When I moved to Philadelphia in 2017, I needed a fresh start. I was an over-worked, over-educated “starving artist” and my life felt stagnant! Burnt-out and desperate for change, I found a curious job posting which led me to a curiouser little cottage. Here I was met with Lois' refreshing attitude and infectious enthusiasm.
I admired Lois' approach to domestic work and the vision that fueled her house cleaning business, Volta Naturals. Down the rabbit hole I went! I suddenly found myself in the wonderland of domestic housework.
I knew that cleaning professionally would be hard work. I knew it would be humbling. However, I did not anticipate the personal growth and profound self-realizations that would be fostered through this work. It’s amazing what you can uncover about yourself when you face the mess and clear away the clutter. I joined Volta Naturals in November of 2017. If you had told me in October that I'd be cleaning houses, I probably would've laughed at the idea. Now I can't imagine my life without Lois, Jessica, and the rest of THE VOLTA WAY family. Life's funny like that.
Before I knew it, I was learning to make Volta Naturals cleaning products while becoming increasingly interested in holistic wellness. I began to research things like conscientious consumerism, “green-washing,” common toxicities, and endocrine disruptors. What small changes can we make to be more eco-friendly in our homes? Do I really need the harsh chemicals I store under the sink? What is that really long word listed on the ingredient label of my face-wash, and do I really want to put that on my skin? Why does the smell of the detergent aisle give me a headache, while Volta Naturals basil & peppermint cleaner doesn't? What's the deal with essential oils, anyway? I truly believe that when we know better we do better. I also believe that we should never stop learning.
I invite you to join me in my journey, indulging our ever growing curiosities about how to be more eco-conscious in our homes. Let's all know better and do better together as we work toward building healthier and happier communities.
